I don't think it's wrong to continue to write letters, I just find it strange that someone would continue do so, and to make an entire system based around that, all the while knowing (or at least suspecting) that they're making this stuff up.

Where it does become wrong is when the society decides that Binker has been writing back and hates fags, or whatever.
