So with a lot of effort we can make Twitter behave somewhat like a crappy approximation to DW? I would rather just hang out on Dreamwidth which offers these features as standard, plus has meaningful moderation tools, plus the content creators not the advertisers are the customers. The main useful advice from that article is that if someone is interesting on Twitter, find their real blog and follow that.

Unfortunately, a lot of the interesting people don't have blogs. Adam Kucharski and Devi Sridhar are examples of people who I can't find anywhere else.

What I actually do is use the Tweak New Twitter extension to get rid of the crap in the UI, and use Secateur liberally to get rid of the crap people. It's a shame Block Together died but there's some satisifaction in finding a motherlode of stupidity and blocking them and all their followers.
