Please allow me to introduce myself
Mar. 8th, 2005 11:44 pmI'm a man of wealth and taste:
The quiz author seems to have in mind the modern Satanism of people like our old friend Aleister Crowley and Anton LaVey. It's more likely that I'd cast my lot in with the Dark Lord (who only exists in a metaphorical sense, remember) than that I'd, say, convert to Islam, but that's not saying very much. Satanism seems to be an elaborate prank designed to annoy Christians while having some good parties (which of course, I can do anyway), rather than a system one could practically live by. If any Satannic evangelists would like to compete with
nlj21 for my attention, then we can always talk, of course.
![]() | You scored as Satanism. Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Satanism! Before you scream, do a bit of research on it. To be a Satanist, you don't actually have to believe in Satan. Satanism generally focuses upon the spiritual advancement of the self, rather than upon submission to a deity or a set of moral codes. Do some research if you immediately think of the satanic cult stereotype. Your beliefs may also resemble those of earth-based religions such as paganism.

In the meantime, I will stick to the True Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn (May Her Hooves Never Be Shod) and Kelvin, who is The Lord.

Date: 2005-03-09 02:05 pm (UTC)True, but Wikipedia's article on LaVey points out that that's not all it's about: there's a sort of ubermench, Nietzsche-like undertone to it which I'm not sure I find appealing.
I don't know if that qualifies it as a practical system to live by, but do you really need one?
Not particularly. As I've said before, if I felt I wanted a community I might look into religion of some sort (Satanist coffee mornings: cool!), but right now I have enough to occupy me.

Date: 2005-03-09 01:56 pm (UTC)Not at all: that was my first result.
Looking at the results coming up I have a feeling that the author of the quiz has presented a really negative image of Christianity and a really positive one of Satanism
I think they've possibly interpreted Christianity as the American evangelical variant of the same: the questions about literal creationism, for example. I don't know what the blurb says for people who get Christianity as their top result (and can't be bothered to go and answer as an evangelical to find out).
I'm not saying that you're really a Christian without knowing it, but you are after all a product of Christian culture and I'm sure you share a lot of the values of Christianity.
Indeed so, but the quiz seems to be much more interested in doctrine than values, and I'm pretty much guaranteed to put "disagree strongly" against evangelical Christian doctrine, which I suppose might influence my result.

(not too sure I agree with their doctrine of God; sounds rather modalist to me):
